company History

Our story

1945

Birth of the company

Founded as a sole trader by the current MD's grandfather, M.W. Stevenson Gibson - known as Steven - who is tired of travelling around the country servicing lifeboats for the RNLI. The business begins under the name of the previous owner, McGregor, who wanted to emigrate to Canada. Principal activities consist of radio sales, retail and charging of batteries and electrical contracting and repairs.

1952

Vision of the future

The sale and rental of televisions begins, growing to 50% of turnover in just three years.

1957

Commitment to quality

Having worked for the RNLI, Steven Gibson recognises the importance of quality work and joins the Electrical Contractors' Association of Scotland (now SELECT) and the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC). The firm's membership number of the latter is 610, making it one of the body's earliest members.

1963

Becomes a limited company

The legal status of the business is changed to that of a limited company, being incorporated on 10 May 1963.

1964

The next generation

Steven Gibson dies on 27 October 1964 and the position of Managing Director is assumed by his son, Jack Gibson.

2014

Passing on the reins

After running the business successfully for 50 years, ill-health finally forces Jack to retire at the ripe old age of 80.

2014+

Family line continues

The business is now run by the third generation of the family, Andrew Gibson, with his sister Gail in charge of the office. The fourth generation also entered the business when Gail's son Maxwell became an adult trainee, winning Apprentice of the Year in his first year at college.
